A dead man is the worst enemy alive, I thought. You can't alter his power over you. You can't alter what you love or owe. And it's too late to ask him for his absolution. He has beaten you all ways.

About This Quote

Deep down, we all know that death is a terrible thing. We go through the motions of life because we know that one day, we will have to leave it behind us. We know that death is inevitable, but the thought of dying still feels like a betrayal. We fear it and hate it and try to avoid our own demise.

In the short term, we may try to deny our mortality, but in the long term, we know that being alive is a wonderful thing. It brings us joy and laughter and all kinds of things that make life worth living.
